You're a Word Builder!
Wow, what an amazing job you did this week! You are becoming a reading superstar. Learning to read is a lot like playing with building blocks. Each letter is a block with its very own special sound. When you put the letter blocks together in the right order, you don't build a tower... you build a WORD! How cool is that?
We've been practicing with a special pattern called CVC words. That's just a secret code for Consonant-Vowel-Consonant. Think of it like a yummy sound sandwich! The two consonants are the bread on the outside, and the yummy vowel is the filling in the middle.
Your Secret Reading Power!
To read a CVC word, just say each sound one by one, and then slide them together fast!
c - a - t ➔ cat
Meet the Vowel Superstars!
The vowels are the superstars in the middle of our CVC words. They make the special sound that glues everything together. Let's remember their short sounds:
- a says /a/ like in apple
- e says /e/ like in egg
- i says /i/ like in igloo
- o says /o/ like in octopus
- u says /u/ like in umbrella
Do you remember reading your very first word all by yourself? How did it feel? Did you feel proud? Excited? It's a magical feeling, like unlocking a secret level in a video game! Every time you read a new word, you are unlocking more of the world. The more you practice, the faster and smoother you'll get, just like riding a bike!
Let's practice building some words right now!
