What Do Our Animal Friends Need?
Have you ever felt super hungry after running around at the park? Or really thirsty and needed a big drink of water? And what about at night? Don't you love snuggling into your cozy, warm bed? Guess what? Animals are a lot like us! They have special things they need every single day to be happy, healthy, and safe. Let's be animal detectives and find out what they are!
The Three Super Important Needs!
Almost every animal on our amazing planet needs these three things to live. We can call them the "Big Three"!
- Food: Just like you need yummy food for energy, animals do too! Some animals, like rabbits, love to munch on plants and carrots. Other animals, like lions, eat meat. And some animals, like friendly bears, eat both plants (like berries) and fish!
- Water: Splish, splash! Every animal needs to drink water. A deer might sip from a quiet stream, and a little bird might drink from a puddle after it rains. Water keeps their bodies working right!
- Shelter: A shelter is a safe home. It’s a place to hide from danger and stay warm and dry. A bird builds a nest in a tree, a fox digs a cozy den underground, and a fish might hide under a big rock in the water.
Let's Compare! A Squirrel and a Fish
A fluffy squirrel and a shimmery fish both need the Big Three, but they find them in very different ways! A squirrel finds food (acorns) in the forest, drinks water from puddles, and makes a shelter in a tree hole. A fish finds food (tiny plants) in the pond, lives right inside its water, and uses rocks for shelter. Wow, so different!
Let's Think: What If...
Imagine a big, beautiful forest. Now, what would happen to the squirrels and birds if all the trees were cut down? Where would they find their homes? Where would the squirrels find their nutty snacks? It would be very hard for them to find their food and shelter. This is why it's so important to take care of our world for all our animal friends!
